Study hard, and party harder with this eighth expansion pack for The Sims 4. But before you buy, let’s find out if The Sims 4: Discover University is Worth it?
The Sims franchise has come a long way since its initial release over twenty years ago. Only three life states existed, baby, child and adult. Now there are expansion packs that not only expand a Sim’s life, but also their education and opportunities.
Keg parties, cheap ramen and masses of student loan debt, that is University life in a nutshell, or so I am to believe through The SIms 4: University. Released in 2019, it’s the eight expansion pack for the series, and expands on education, giving young adult sims to get a degree, and advance up the career ladder. (If only it works like that in real life).
However, Is The SIms 4: Discover University worth it? Does it really add fun, entertaining gameplay to the base game? Let’s find out.
Is The Sims 4: Discover University Worth it?
So why should you get The Sims 4: Discover University pack? After all, is The Sims 4: DIscover University actually worth it? Like many simmers, I tend to try and be on the fence with expansion packs these days, as I believe many of them are overpriced for the lack of content you actually receive, however I truly think that this expansion pack is one of the best EA has done.
Obviously, that all depends on how you play your game. If you’re looking for a realistic experience where your sim has to grow up and do the traditional thing of achieving good grades, getting a career, having a family and settling down, then I think this would add to your gameplay significantly.
Five Things That Make This Pack Worth It?
5. You Get a Degree!
Unlike reality, in The Sims 4: Discover University, your degree actually means something. Yes, once you struggle through heaps of studying, presentation and homework, you will hopefully receive passing grades which qualify you for an outstanding degree.
Once you leave University, you will find that you can join a few selective careers at mid level, rather than having to work your way up, and that you also receive a slightly higher salary. So it makes studying worthwhile in The Sims 4.
4. A Wealth of Options!
There are many options that come with The Sims 4: Discover University. Firstly, you get to choose which establishment you would like to attend; whether that be Foxbury that focuses on Science and Technology, or Britechester, a more traditional looking campus that specialises in arts and humanities.
You even have the choice of studying whilst living in your home, staying at another lot nearer to University, or even living in a chaotic dorm room. So there are a wealth of options of how you wish to live out your University life! That brings me onto my next point…..
3. Live out Your University Fantasy Here!
This is a given that you can play out any story line with any Sims expansion pack, and that is true with The Sims 4: Discover University. Here you can play out your storyline any which way you want.
Your sim can choose to be the star pupil, purely studying and working on achieving the highest grades, or even slack it out as a party animal who barely even passes her lessons. Or play it as chaotic as me, have your sim take up four classes, whilst also trying to hold down a part time job- that was… something.
4. Plenty of New Items and Activities!
The Sims 4: Discover University boasts plenty of new traits, objects and activities that are supposed to improve your overall University experience, such as a juice keg in which you can throw wild parties, or even a bike that you can literally ride across campus- although the latter is annoying I must say!
There are also other features that were added to The Sims 4: University such as secret societies and organisations adding plenty of additional social interactions and scenarios to your gameplay.
5.Dorm Rooms! End Off!
Now I’ve had housemates, and although I would never go back to that cruddy experience ever again, however, I will say that living in a dorm in The SIms 4: DIscover University was entertaining. You get to have your own bed, but apart from that your bedroom and other communal areas are shared with NPC’s who will randomly play the violin badly, take food from your fridge and sit on your bed when they have their own.
However, this provides plenty of social interactions and opportunities, as well as free food from time to time, as your dorm mates will bring in platters of random food on a whim. Also staying in a dorm provides that truly unique University experience, will plenty of random, chaotic encounters and overall fun to be had.
Is The Sims 4: Discover University Worth it? My thoughts!
If you’ve read my previous blog, Ranking Every Sims 4 From Worst to Best, you would know that I’ve rated The Sims 4: Discover University highly and for so many reasons. Mainly because I didn't have the opportunity to seek further education myself, and wanted to live out my college years through a simulation game, so this was my fix.
Yes. The addition of further education really does expand your young adult Sims life quite a bit. They can now choose to revel in a studious college experience that allows them to socialise, experiment and of course, get a leg up in the career ladder quicker. A stark contrast from simply ageing up and working your way from the bottom!
