I'm so Disappointed in Tears of the Kingdom

Since the buggy shit show that was Pokemon Scarlet/ Violet, I have seriously worried for what Nintendo will do to Tears of the Kingdom. But with the demo that was released last week were my fears put to rest or am I more worried that ever!

Over the past year, I've fallen out of love with Nintendo. From buggy and subpar games, to games that seem empty and lacking quality content, they seem to be either struggling with the switch's hardware limitations or just can't be bothered to satsify their loyal fanbase anymore.

Related: Nintendo sucks - and here's why!

After the success and new direction that Breath of the wild took in 2017, fans have wanted a sequel or a game similar to this! We waited patiently for years. With every direct released, we were promised that it was 'coming soon' and seven years later, we are finally going to get that sequel. However, I'm no longer anticipating it's release, if anything I'm highly annoyed at Nintendo and here's why!

1) Unjustifiable Wait Times

Fair enough, game development can take a long time, I appreciate that and I wouldn't have minded the long, development time IF Nintendo were to bring us a whole new Zelda title, created using a new engine, but they haven't! This game literally looks like Breath of the WIld DLC.

All the assets and the engine are already there. It's not being made for a newer console (as far as we're aware of), so why take so long release something, when half the content is already there? For context, Majora's Mask was release a mere 6 six months after Ocarina of TIme. It used the same engine and assets and the Nintendo 64 was a far limited in regards to hardware too!

Considering that the Tears of the kingdom is using the same engine and some assets from BOTW, I don't think it's excusable to have waited THIS long for a game. I'm sorry, that's just how I feel!

2) Nintendo's Recent Track Record!

As mentioned, lately Nintendo have been releasing really subpar and buggy games recently that it's an insult to the fans (like myself), who have supported them for YEARS! Let's look at the bigger picture here:

  • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is still full of glitches that they haven't fixed, No, instead you can now buy DLC for that game!

  • They promised frequent updates and addtional content for Animal Crossing, which after one major update and DLC THAT YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE, bailed on that game in late 2021. Personally, the longevity of this game is mainly due to the creative fan base.

  • Recent games like Mario Golf and Mario Strikers have just feel so bare boned and basic.

It doesn't paint Nintendo in a good light and personally, I don't really have much faith in them at the moment.

3) The Game Looks Poor!

For the cheap price of £60 (sarcasm), you can play a game that drops frame rates often. During the gameplay footage that was shown, the game constantly drop frame rates drastically when there was hardly anything populating the screen, just imagine how bad it's going to look when it gets a little busy. Like is my game going to crash? I personally don't think the switch can handle these ambitious games anymore!

And I've heard alot of people say, just get an OLED to fix any graphical and bug issues! I'm sorry, do people not understand the cost of living crisis plenty of us are experiencing right now? There are many of us who can't put food on the table or keep roofs over heads, but no, just go out and buy the latest Switch, you loser!

Am I going to buy Tears of the Kingdom? Honestly, I don't know anymore. When we were shown gameplay footage, I was instantly out. Nope. I was not going to invest my hard earned money and time on this, however, there was a slight glimmer of hope when the more recent trailer was released, but let's just say, I'm not going to pre-ordering this asap.
